A National Park In Missouri
Introduction
There are 58 National Parks in the United States. The National Parks was created by Ullyses S. Grant in 1872 when Yellowstone National Park was created. Since then many other areas were designated as National Parks. Well its time for another park to be added to the national parks system. and Missouri has been selected to be a possible place to be the next National Park. Poor Missouri.... we have no national parks in our state. With your hard work, immense creativity and finely tuned computer skills, you could change that.
Task
Your job over the next three days will be to convince the U.S. National Parks Service to choose a new site for a U.S. National Park. Each group of two will: 1. What is the criteria for a national park to be chosen. 2. Reasearch possible national park sites in the state of Missouri. 3. Choose one site you believe would be a good addition to the national park system. 4. Create a presentation that pursuades the U.S. Parks Service to accept your idea for a new national park meeting their criteria for a new park. Don't worry. You won't be alone. A teammate will be working with you. Good Luck, if the U.S. National Parks Service Accepts your presentation. Your park will become a National Treasure.
Process

What state parks in Missouri have the right stuff to become a National Park. Your job is to research multiple (3) state parks in the state of Missouri to present to your group Choose parks from different regions of the state. Why did you choses these three parks over other parks in the state? The only stae park off limits in Mark Twain National Forest. Take notes and explain to your group which parks might be the right park. Use this labor paper to collect your data.

Criteria Researcher in the room will work together to complete their task. Every State Park Specialists will also work
together. You have exactly 30 minutes to complete this first task. Work quickly and efficiently.
Now for the challenge!
Day 2-3: Return to your original group of two. Each person should briefly present their findings and work to the team. Everyone should work together and choose a state park that they think most closely meets the criteria. Once you have chose a state park, put your team names and park chosen on a list in the front of the room, and do the reearch to see if that park meets the national park criteria. If it does, and fill out your labor papers for your park and create a presentation that would influence the U.S. National Parks Service to accept your choice of Misouri's parks for the next U.S. National Park. You have two 50 minute classes to complete this task.
